7 high schoolers arrested for serial campus assaults at Santa Barbara area school

Santa Barbara County school officials announced Wednesday that seven high school students had been arrested in connection with a series of on-campus assaults at a local high school.

The alleged incidents were reported at San Marcos High School in Santa Barbara. Administrators were alerted to cellphone video showing the assaults, which led them to notify a school resource deputy.

In a statement, San Marcos High prinicipal Kip Glazer said one student had been the target of several physical assaults by a group of classmates. On Wednesday, seven male students were arrested on felony charges, including assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury and conspiracy, in connection with those attacks.

One of the suspects was released to his guardians. The other six remain detained at Santa Maria Juvenile Hall.

An investigation remains ongoing. The suspects and victim have not been identified due to their minor statuses.
