SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KNX) –A 76-year-old Colorado man was arrested Thursday in connection to a cold case in San Francisco.
The San Francisco Police Department said Mark Stanley Personette was arrested in Conifer, Colorado for the 1978 murder of 15-year-old Marissa Rolf Harvey.
Harvey was visting family in the area and had gone to the Golden Gate Park to go horseback riding, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Her body was discovered in the area of Sutro Heights Park on March 28, 1978.
“For more than four decades, Marissa Harvey’s family members have been relentless advocates to bring her killer to justice, and we hope this development in the case begins to bring a measure of healing and closure they’ve been too long denied,” Police Chief Bill Scott said.
Personette was booked into Jefferson County Jail on one count of homicide police said in the press release.
The case reopened in October 2020 when the homicide cold-case unit used “advanced investigative methods” from the department’s forensic sciences division, according to the press release.
The investigation is open at this time. Those with any information on this case are asked to contact Sgt. Alan Levy, Star #4216, of the San Francisco police department’s homicide detail at (415) 553-9245 or by email at alan.levy@sfgov.org.
