A California man was arrested in Santa Clara and has been charged with possession of assault weapons, multiple silencers drugs, and the makings of a pipe bomb, according to the police.
Wesley Charles Martines, 32, of Los Gatos, was arraigned on Tuesday for the felony charges.
A little after midnight on July 9, a business owner called the Campbell Police Department to report a suspicious man he could see on his security camera alleging the man was looking into cars and a storage shed.
Police stopped Martines in a truck and found a weapons stockpile, including two AR-style rifles. It is illegal in California to manufacture, purchase or possess assault weapons. Together with the guns, police found ammunition inscribed with sayings like “Cop Killer," "To a widow from the Grim Reaper,” and “A Good Start.”
According to police, the suspect had a journal containing a racist and anti-Semitic manifesto, as well as a plan to go to a sporting goods store dressed as an employee and “tie everybody up."
The manifesto said he wanted to wipe out the Black, Hispanic and Jewish populations.
Police said they also found body armor, heroin, methamphetamine and a pipe bomb filled with pellets. There was no explosive material inside.
Martines was remanded on $300,000 bail.
“All of us have a role in stopping the next mass shooting, suicide, or domestic violence murder. Please call law enforcement if you know that someone is armed and dangerous,” said District Attorney Jeff Rosen in a statement.
The police served Martines with a gun violence restraining order and seized his weapons.
Santa Clara County law enforcement uses the most gun violence restraining orders in Northern California.
