The easing of COVID-19 restrictions tomorrow is cause for celebration for some and concern for others.
“I feel fine with it, based on the overall amount of people who are vaccinated,” said Justin Satzman. Satzman, of Playa del Rey, said he plans to keep wearing a mask indoors and public places.
“Honestly, more to protect myself. Even though I know I’m fully vaccinated and I know that, you know, all the CDC says that if I am fully vaccinated, it’s very unlikely that I’ll get it. But I still feel like there’s a lot of unknowns with COVID.”
Natalie Raymond is feeling "reluctant" about the reopening.
“(I’m reluctant) for a couple of reasons. One, because it seems like just an excuse to eliminate protections for low-income people,” the Hollywood resident said.
Unvaccinated people will still be required to wear masks.
“And then, also, I just don’t trust my fellow people to be honest about their vaccination status,” Raymond said. “It seems like the people who are least likely to get vaccinated are the same people who have been for the last year complaining about wearing masks.”
Ambre Ying is immunosuppressed due to medication, but is fully vaccinated and plans to keep masking up in indoor public settings.
“I’m actually feeling pretty good,” the Huntington Beach resident said. "The cases didn’t come back up and they are still really low here and more and more people are getting vaccinated, so I’m feeling pretty good. I’ll still be careful, but I really don’t worry so much about it.”
If COVID rates start to rise, Ying says she’ll self-isolate.
“I’m hoping we can do this right so we can all get back to some sort of life.”
