VALLEJO, Calif. (KNX) – When it comes to potholes in Vallejo, Mayor Robert McConnell is asking that citizens stop taking matters into their own hands.

“I would also like to discourage pothole vigilantism,” McConnell wrote in his weekly Mayor’s Message. “It can be a hazardous task to undertake repairs without the proper help with traffic control.”

McConnell urged that citizens instead use the SeeClickFix system to report potholes.

It comes as residents David Marsteller Jr., Sean West, Garrett Toles and Mike Brigandi took matters into their own hands, with Marsteller Jr. starting a GoFundMe to help address the issue.

“The funds raised are to be used to buy dry patch asphalt to fill in potholes,” according to the GoFundMe.

As of Sunday, the group raised over $2,280 dollars, surpassing its initial goal of $350.

Marsteller said he wasn’t afraid of “possible stoppage” and that it would instead “would show how ass backward this city is for allowing 10 inch holes,” according to the Vallejo Times Herald.
