DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Flight attendants from American Airlines are picketing the company's leadership conference at the Hyatt Regency in Downtown Dallas.

Lori Bassani with the Association of Professional Flight Attendants says the union has filed a federal complaint. She says American is using a sexist attendance policy that penalizes flight attendants more for missing work than pilots.

Bassani says seventy five percent of the companie's flight attendants are female, while most pilots are male. Bassani says the two groups should not have different policies.

About 50 people are picketing outside the Hyatt, including some pilots and members of the ground workers' union.

American Airlines says in a statement: "We met with APFA in negotiations last week under the early opener clause of the collective bargaining agreement, with more meetings scheduled for March. We support our engaged and passionate team members making their voices heard. As discussions continue, we are confident that we can work with the union's negotiating team to both prioritize the needs of our flight attendants and allow American Airlines to operate competitively."

President of American flight attendants’ union says, “Our morale is the worst I’ve ever seen it.” She says other work groups are treated with more respect. pic.twitter.com/LJxOxEAWm0
