DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - American Airlines' DFW to Oakland route is being suspended next week. The company is having to patch up some holes in its schedule caused by the grounding of Boeing's 737 MAX aircraft.

This is the first route American Airlines is putting on hiatus due to the three month-long grounding.

Senior Aviation Editor with "The Points Guy" Ben Mutzabaugh says American will continue to move aircraft around in the future.

Even though Oakland flights are not flown with the 737 MAX, the temporarily suspension of the route frees up aircraft to cover for the MAX elsewhere in the airline's schedule.

"They are needing to move aircraft around to kind of keep up for these holes in their schedule where they had expected the MAX's to be," said Mutzabaugh. "Of course, not only for the last three months, but especially, going forward."

People in the Dallas/Fort Worth Area can land in California's Bay Area with flights to San Francisco and San Jose.

The removal of the Boeing 737 MAX from American's schedule this summer has caused nearly 115 daily flight cancellations. American expects the grounding to reduce its 2019 pre-tax earnings by about $350 million through August 19th.
