DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The city of Dallas may have to spend another $7 million on the Margaret McDermott Bridge.
Currently, the bridge barricades stop pedestrians and cyclists from crossing the bridge over the trinity because of design flaws to the structure. The bridge opened two years ago and the hike and bike portion has be unstable and therefore unusable.
An engineering firm says the bridges cables experienced vibrations that were unaccounted for in the design and so the anchor rod needs to be fixed.
The cost is $7.1 million. It will take around three years to complete.
The city manager says this has to be done if the city wants to ever use the bridge.
The Dallas city council will vote on the issue on Wednesday.
