COLLIN COUNTY (KRLD) - People in Collin County should beware of a phone scam making the rounds.
Scammers are calling people and trying to convince them there are warrants out for them, or that they missed a court date and now owe a fine. Investigators say the scammers then try to get the person to pay, whether it’s over the phone with a credit card or while meeting in person.
A number of people have fallen victim to the scheme. Collin County sheriffs say these scams in particular affect older folks, who may not be active on social media and may not see when investigators post warnings about scams like this.
Investigators remind everyone they would never ask for payment over the phone. If you get this call or a similar one, don’t give out any personal information, and hang up as soon as possible.
