DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas City Council will meet today to talk about the Confederate monument that sits in Pioneer Park, near the convention center downtown.
There are only three possible options: leave the monument as is, decide to remove it, or keep it while adding markers showing historical context.
Many believe monuments should stay or have that extra context added, but some faith leaders in Dallas are pushing for their removal. They say monuments should reflect a city’s values, and that Confederate monuments are examples of racism and white supremacy.
Removing the monument from Pioneer Park could cost around $500,000.
The City council is expected to only discuss the outcome, and should not take a vote today.
