Little remains of the Beirut Grill in west Arlington after a four-alarm fire tore through a one-story commercial building Monday evening during triple-digit heat. Several neighboring businesses in the same strip were also damaged.
Arlington Fire Department Lt. Juan Mata said crews were dispatched to 2410 W. Abram St. at 5:37 p.m. First units found heavy smoke coming from the restaurant at the end of the complex. Officials requested additional alarms as the fire grew. By 6:27 p.m. it was a four-alarm assignment, Mata told NBC 5.
More than 80 firefighters responded, including 13 engines, four ladder trucks and help from the Pantego Fire Department, according to the department. The roof collapsed. Of six units in the building, three had heavy fire damage and three had heavy smoke damage, Mata said. Officials said contents inside are likely a total loss.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The restaurant and other businesses were closed Monday, so no one had to be evacuated from the building, Arlington Fire said. S. Bowen Road was closed in both directions during the response.
The cause remains under investigation. Nearby businesses include Smash Toast, a Pilates studio and a med spa, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. A neighboring restaurant owner told the paper the fire spread from one end of the strip to the other.
Firefighters worked in dangerous heat and took breaks to cool down and rehydrate, The Dallas Morning News reported.
