DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Emergency shelters are open across North Texas this morning, helping to keep those in need safe from the bitter cold.

People in need can take advantage of the hot meals and space to sleep provided by shelters, for as long as the cold spell continues.

Some people using the shelters say the only thing that would make our outdoor conditions worse is rain, and it's nearly impossible to sleep outside right now.

Besides meals and cots, some shelters also have showers, warm clothes, and offer some form of transportation.

Members of the Salvation Army and other organizations say they're doing everything they can to protect people, because this is the kind of weather where people could die of exposure.
