FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A crash involving a car going the wrong way shut down I-30 in West Fort Worth for almost four hours Friday morning.

Police started receiving 911 calls about the driver on I-30 near Lancaster in Downtown Fort Worth about 3:30 a.m.

Officers spotted the car going west in the eastbound lanes of I-30. They started running parallel to the driver going the wrong way with lights and sirens on.

"We weren't directly behind the vehicle," says Officer Buddy Calzada. "We don't want to put ourselves at risk going the wrong way down the freeway or anyone else."

Calzada says officers did put out spike strips, but the driver of the car kept going. He says she hit another car head-on just outside West Loop 820.

Both the driver of the wrong way car and the other car died at the scene. Calzada says the driver of the other car may not have had his headlights on.

"Anytime we have a loss of life, it's tragic," Calzada says. "No matter how it happened, it's very, very sad and very, very tragic."

No one else was in either car, and no other cars were involved.

Police have not released the identity of the driver of the car going the wrong way or the driver of the other car. Eastbound lanes of I-30 were closed almost four hours while they investigated the crash and cleared the wreckage.
