Newborn Found Abandoned Near Dumpster

ARLINGTON (1080 KRLD) - It happened around 8:15 Saturday morning, police said.

A woman taking out the trash discovered a newborn baby boy in some sort of container next to a dumpster, seemingly abandoned at an apartment complex on Tan Oak Lane in Arlington.

Officers had to perform CPR at the scene, but doctors were able to stabilize the infant at the hospital. Arlington Police spokesman Lt. Chris Cook says if the woman hadn't have gone out to the dumpster and found him, the baby most likely wouldn't have survived.

Police are canvassing the area, talking to neighbors, checking nearby security cameras and using social media in an effort to find the person responsible for dumping the newborn.

Texas' Safe Haven and Baby Moses laws allow for a child 60-days-old or younger to be left at a hospital or fire station, like the station that's a half mile from that apartment complex.

Anyone with information is asked to call Arlington police or Crimestoppers.
