FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - Hear something, say something.
That's exactly what an off-duty Fort Worth police officer did when he heard a fellow player make a chilling comment while playing an online video game early Wednesday morning.
According to police in Taylor, north of Austin, the Fort Worth officer was winding down after his night shift when he reported hearing a young man say he was "going to shoot up Taylor High School." Acting on the tip, officers in Taylor immediately tracked down and arrested Devant Davis-Brooks, 17, at his home.
Taylor Police Commander Joseph Branson says Davis-Brooks, a Taylor High graduate, is charged with Making a Terroristic Threat, a third-degree felony. Branson said, "We take any report like this seriously, but the fact that it comes from a licensed peace officer there in Fort Worth certainly lends to credibility from the outcry."
Branson said his department is very grateful for the assist from the unidentified Fort Worth officer, and that his chief plans to reach out to say a personal thanks. He said, "The Fort Worth officer plans to be a night shifter, so we want to let him rest some of this off. But we do want to express our sincere thanks to the entire Fort Worth Police Department, and this officer in particular."
