DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Humane Society of North Texas (HSNT) is caring for 53 small dogs and puppies seized last week from an alleged cruelty situation in Cooke County.
HSNT officials supported the Cooke County Sheriff's Department in the effort to rescue the neglected animals on Friday, May 24.
The dogs, including Yorkies, Shih-Tzus and other small breeds, are still in the process of being evaluated by HSNT's veterinarian and Humane Investigations Team.
The dogs remain in HSNT's care while evidence is collected to finalize custody of the animals. Authorities say criminal charges could be filed in the case.
"The Humane Society of North Texas will continue to support our local law enforcement when there is a need to provide relief for pets that have been endangered," said Cassie Lackey, HSNT Director of Communications. "We will fight for those animals without a voice," she added.
HSNT is in immediate need of financial support to cover the cost of food, bedding and veterinary care for the neglected animals.
Donations to the Animal Medical Fund can be made on the Humane Society of North Texas Facebook page, or at hsnt.org.
