DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A Garland man is facing two felony charges for leaving his children on an interstate overpass while he went to look for gas.
Police say Jonathan Ocanas's ran out of gas along I-30 on the bridge over Broadway in Garland, April 29 at 7:30 pm.
Ocanas climbed down the bridge and went searching for gas, a police report says. In the meantime the children got out of the car.
"The two children were sitting on a ledge in the 500 block of West I-30 without adult supervision, near a broke down car." said Garland Police Lieutenant Pedro Barineau. "It seemed as if the children were left on the highway over the bridge area."
The children were age three and five, Barineau said.
A woman driving by saw the children sitting on the ledge, pulled over and got the children to safety.
"Jonathan Ocanas was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering a child, placing them in imminent danger." said Barineau.
The charges are class two felonies that carry a penalty of two to 20-years in prison.
