MCKINNEY (1080 KRLD) - The McKinney City Council has approved a plan to install sensors and signs along Wilson Creek to try to prevent people from getting caught in flash flooding.
The McKinney fire department says crews have made five high-water rescues in the area since 2015.
When Wilson Creek reaches a certain level, flash flooding becomes possible around Towne Lake Park. The early warning system will warn drivers along Park View Avenue and Valley Creek Trail.
McKinney will install signs and flashing lights. The lights will be triggered by sensors that will be installed to detect rising water.
The most recent rescue was in September when the fire department says a man inadvertently drove into high water. His car was swept away, and he climbed a tree, waiting overnight for rescue.
McKinney hopes to finish installation by June.
