TOMBALL (1080 KRLD) - A lawsuit has been filed against a Southeast Texas Alzheimer's home, after the family of a patient says was mauled by a dog.

It happened at the Village Green Alzheimer's Care home in Tomball.  Attorney Mike Kerensky says the dog, a stray adopted by owners of the facility, lived on site and nipped at 92 year old Norma Graves on February 12th.  He says it attacked her face ten days later on February 22nd.

She was treated at a hospital and her family moved her to another facility immediately.

Kerensky says Graves has massive cuts on her face and is afraid of her reflection because she doesn't know how she got hurt.  "The family has tried as best they can to cover up all the mirrors and all the reflective areas in her new home to try to prevent this reaction, but it's almost impossible.  She's  just scared of something that she doesn't understand.  If she sees herself in the mirror and sees all these cuts on her face which are massive, it scares her.  She doesn't know how it happened and she doesn't know who to be afraid of and she doesn't know who hurt her, which means she can't trust anybody."

Kerensky says the same dog also bit another resident. The dog has been removed from the facility.

He says the family wants justice for the victim. They also want Village Green to quit "putting untrained, unsupervised dogs in their Alzheimer's population.  As long as they keep doing it, this is going to happen again and we're hoping this lawsuit will get them to change."

A judge has granted a temporary restraining order mandating no dogs at the facility until it can be proven they are properly trained and supervised.

Village Green has refused comment.
