Voters in the Arlington ISD will have the chance to decide the school district's tax rate this fall.

The school board has decided to put a voter-approval tax rate election on the ballot on November 3rd.

The proposal would generate about $56 million in new revenue for the district. About $18 million would come from an increase in state funding triggered by the new tax rate.

The property tax bill for the average homeowner in the Arlington ISD would go up by nearly $163.00 per year.

Arlington ISD officials say they need the additional revenue to cover the cost of pay raises for teachers and other staffers. The district says those pay raises are needed to keep teacher salaries competitive with other districts and to retain well-qualified employees.

The district would also boost pay for bus drivers, custodians, maintenance workers, security officers and other non-teaching employees.

If voters approve the measure on November 3rd,  the total property tax rate in the Arlington ISD would increase by 8.84 cents per $100 of property value.
