Arlington Protest Turns Violent, Walmart Looted

Arlington Police

Arlington's first protest began quietly, but after sunset things took a turn for the worse when demonstrators swamped the intersection of Cooper and Division, surrounding an occupied police car, rocking it and pelting it with objects.

Crowds of demonstrators surged the Arlington police headquarters, defacing the building with spray paint and burning American flags before going on to loot the Walmart across the street from AT&T Stadium.

While making arrests there, police heard the plans of other lootersArlington Police Lieutenant Chris Cook says they had enough officers on hand to prevent the looting of the Parks Mall, but there was some damage and looting at the nearby Highlands.

"It's unfortunate that you have a few people that will try to hijack their message," Lt. Cook said.

Through social media, police learned of plans to loot the Target store near there. But police were able to thwart that mob as well.

Today, the police will regroup and Lieutenant Cook says they'll be fully prepared for whatever develops tonight.
