DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - As North Texans have been staying home, we've been using more wifi and data to keep in touch.

Dallas-based AT&T says data usage and wifi calling have jumped twenty-one percent over the past ten weeks.

AT&T Corporate VP Mike Peterson says landline calling has also increased 73 percent.

AT&T says it gave 10,000 mobile hot spots to Dallas ISD to help students connect for online learning. The company says it negotiated a "heavily discounted" data plan for families with a student eligible for Head Start or federal school lunch program.

Peterson says about half of AT&T's employees are now working from home. Peterson says those who work in the field are getting 20 percent bonuses.  He says AT&T trying to recognize those front-line workers and keep them safe.

He says providers across the country have all taken the same pledge to waive late fees and stop disconnecting customers who can't pay.

AT&T says hundreds of providers "took the pledge" to stop cutting service, waive late fees & overage charges. Company says they've had those waivers in place ten weeks. In addition to 21% increase in voice/data usage, AT&T reports "old fashioned, home voice calling" is up 73%. pic.twitter.com/qp0pb5DA5q
