MANSFIELD (1080 KRLD) - The aunt of a Mansfield girl who died over the weekend is now charged with capital murder.
On Saturday, Melodi Sneed, 9, was found unresponsive in her home on Eagle Dr.
She was rushed to Mansfield Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
A death investigation was initiated.
"After the autopsy was completed, the medical examiner's ruled Melodi's death as a homicide," says Mansfield Police Sgt. Travis Waybourn.
The specific nature of Melodi's injuries have not been released.
"Right now, we're not ready to release in which manner she did die," says Sgt. Waybourn.
Melodi's aunt, Mercia Sneed, 42, was arrested over the weekend.
"We were able to initiate an arrest warrant on her, which was initially injury to a child, causing serious bodily injury," Sgt. Waybourn says. "Today, the update goes where we upgraded the charges to capital murder.
Mercia Sneed is currently behind bars in the Tarrant County Jail on more than $500,000 bond.
