HUNTSVILLE (1080 KRLD) - Abel Ochoa had smoked crack minutes before grabbing a gun and going on a shooting rampage in his Dallas home on August fourth, 2002.
He killed his wife, his seven-year-old and nine-month-old daughters, his father-in-law and a sister-in-law. Another sister in law survived.
Most of the victims were on one couch. Ochoa had to chase down his older daughter before killing her.
Ochoa admitted to the murders.
Texas Department of Criminal Justice spokesman Jeremy Desel says Ochoa used his last statement to offer an apology. "I would like to thank God, my father, my Lord Jesus savior for saving me and changing my life. I want to apologize to my in laws for causing all this emotional pain. I love y'all and consider y'all my sisters I never had. I want to thank you for forgiving me."
Desel says he visited Ochoa in the hours before the execution and "he seemed in good spirits and somewhat resigned to what was going to occur. At the time there as still a US Supreme Court action pending, but that request was denied just before six."
Witnesses for the victims included four members of the extended family. No one witnessed on behalf of Ochoa.
He was the second Texas inmate put to death this year and third in the nation
