DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Federal agents took down dozens of healthcare fraud suspects across Texas today.

Dozens of doctors, pharmacists and other healthcare workers have been scooped up in a major show of force.

US attorneys from around the state today announced the arrests of 16 doctors and at least 20 healthcare workers in an ongoing investigation that could net scores of other indictments.

Dallas U.S. Attorney Erin Nealy Cox says the fraud ranges from unprescribed pill mills, to pharmacies handing out expensive compound creams, and more.

The feds say its a multi-billion dollar industry that not only defrauds taxpayers, it costs lives in the opioid epidemic.
