FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - The Fort Worth school board is buying thousands of computers for elementary school students.

The emergency purchase was approved at last night's board meeting, which was held online.  The vote was unanimous, and will provide over 3,000 Chromebooks and 6,000 internet hotspots to kids who need them. The board also approved buying several new equipment carts for the computers.

"The purchase of additional Chromebooks is for our elementary students," Chief Academic Officer Jerry Moore said during the meeting. "The carts that are referred to are the classroom storage carts we have. That includes the charging mechanism for the Chromebook devices."

Moore says the district has plans to buy more Chromebooks in the future, once students are back in the classroom.
