DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Genevieve Collins defeated four other Republicans for the party's nomination in Congressional District 32.

The Texas Secretary of State says Collins won 52.6% of the vote, crossing the threshold to avoid a run-off.

"Thank you to all of you for being a part of that process," she told supporters at a party Tuesday night. "There is more to come."

Democrat Colin Allred defeated Pete Sessions in 2018. The election was Allred's first run for public office.

Collins has also never held public office. She was endorsed by Republican Congressmen Lance Gooden and John Ratcliffe.

While Allred beat Sessions in 2018, Collins says Governor Greg Abbott won the district by six points. Collins has also never run for public office and says she was prepared for a run-off.

"If it's a run-off, we keep going at full steam ahead, full sprint mode," she said before final results were announced. "I'm a Division One NCAA championship athlete. This is what I know."

When the final results came in, Collins had crossed the 50 percent threshold with 22,102 votes. Floyd McLendon finished second with 34 percent, 14,347 votes.

Allred was running unopposed for the Democratic nomination.
