DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - A lowland gorilla at the Dallas Zoo has died.

Hope was 23-years-old. Zoo officials say Hope and other members of the gorilla troop has been suffering from mild gastrointestinal problems and were being monitored.

Officials conducted more tests after her death and discovered that Hope's colon was severely inflamed. They're performing additional tests to help determine the cause of death.

Other members of the gorilla troop are helping to care for Hope's one-and-a-half year old daughter, Saambili, including her father.

The zoo is temporarily keeping the family troop out of the their designated habitat at the zoo while the monitor the animals.
