DALLAS (KRLD) - The relationship between the United States and Iran could lead to an increase in gas prices in Texas. AAA says the price of gas has increased an average of one cent in Texas over the past week, but that number could change quickly.
"Of course, tensions are still simmering between the U.S. and Iran, so it'll really depend on what happens over the next few days," says AAA's Daniel Armbruster.
AAA says the average price of gas in both Dallas and Fort Worth has increased two cents in the past week to $2.33. In Texas, the highest average is El Paso at $2.51. The cheapest average is Victoria at $2.20.
"It's getting harder to find gas under two dollars a gallon," Armbruster says. "Certainly, this is a time of year when we would normally see gas prices dropping because we're in January. It's colder, and that usually keeps demand down."
Typically, Armbruster says gas prices increase in late February and March as people start traveling during Spring. With issues in Iran, though, he says gas prices may start changing quickly.
"With this situation ongoing, anything could change," Armbruster says. "If that causes a spike in crude oil prices that lasts more than a few days, that will certainly have a domino effect on gas prices here in Texas."
