DALLAS (KRLD) - Krum police have arrested a man after he allegedly ran over a 13-year-old girl with autism and fled the scene.

On Wednesday, while police were gathering information from Leah Johnson's parents, they were notified that a hit and run occurred about a block away in front of an unnamed restaurant.

Officials say they discovered the teen seriously injured and called in a medical helicopter to fly her to Cook Children's hospital. Johnson suffered several broken bones and internal injuries in the incident.

Leah's sister, who also has autism, was walking with her but was not hurt.

After looking at the security footage from the restaurant, and through a further investigation, police were able to identify the driver of the suspect vehicle as Jesus Acevedo.

Acevedo was arrested and charged with causing an accident involving personal injury or death. More charges could be added.
