DENTON (1080 KRLD) - The man charged with the shooting deaths of two sisters at a Texas A&M Commerce residence hall on Monday is facing another capital murder charge out of Denton.

Police say Jacques Smith, 21, killed his ex-girlfriend, 20-year-old Abbaney Matts and her 19-year-old sister Deja Matts, inside the Pride Rock residence hall. He is now also one of three men charged with killing 22-year-old Steven Daniels on New Year's Eve in Denton.

Denton police say investigators were searching Smith's Rowlett home, in connection with they killings in Commerce when they uncovered evidence that connected him to the murder in Denton. Denton detectives applied for their own search warrant for the residence. Officials charged Smith, along with 23-year-old Jalin Hargrove and 26-year-old Earnest Rogers, with capital murder in the case.

Meanwhile, Garland police say Smith was out on bond for assaulting his ex girlfriend last week with a frying pan.

Abbaney Matts says Smith broke into her home to talk about their relationship when things got heated. Smith is accused of breaking a lamp over her head, beating her with a frying pan, throwing a TV at her and then threatening to kill her.

He was arrested and released on a $15,000 bond.

Smith's criminal record includes three arrests, prior to the aggravated assault and capital murders, since 2017.
