Bremer quickly learned that Jake's single mom had terminal breast cancer. After meeting with Jake's mom Bremer asked if she had a plan for Jake once she was gone, she didn't., so Bremer offered her family as a back -up plan.
Soon Jake started spending some weekends and holidays with the Bremers as a way to get to know the whole family.
Kerry Bremer says her husband and three kids embraced Jake, they loved his upbeat spirit and playful nature and there were all on board to have him join the family.
Did I mention Jake has Down Syndrome?
Last week his mother passed away, or as Jake put it, "My mom went to heaven,"... "now Queen is my mom". Jake calls his new mom Queen and his new father Dad Dave.
And while many are calling Bremer a hero for her selfless act of love, she insist it's Jake's mother who is the real hero for securing a safe and loving future for her son.
