FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - It should be smooth sailing on area lakes this holiday weekend.
"The majority of our North Texas lakes that the Army Corps of Engineers operate are all at or close to the conservation pool level, or what most people would consider the normal pool level," says Clay Church with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. "We do have one of our lakes — that’s Grapevine Lake — that's just a little bit into the flood pool just by 1%."
Most North Texas lakes rose into flood pool due to the heavy rains the region got this spring.
As such, people should still use caution when heading out onto the water this weekend.
"The lake levels have been changing over the last six to nine months with the flooding that we had at some of our facilities," says Church. "And so people need to be aware that there may be debris and other things in the water that they're not used to."
Most facilities, such as parks and boat ramps, are open; while there are some that are partially or totally closed.
"People may want to call the lake office or look on the the Fort Worth District’s website to look at the facilities report to see if their favorite campground or boat ramp is available for their use," Church says.
