DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Mother’s Day is Sunday and it's safe to say for many people, the celebration won't look like it usually does.
Aging Expert Lisa Cina says you may not get to hug your mom this year, but you can still celebrate with her. She suggests face-to-face interactions through FaceTime, Zoom or Skpe.
"You pick up so much more, whether you realize you do or not, on body language," Cini says.
She recommends ditching the run-of-the-mill phone call for video chat, if you can't see your mom in person. If your mom has trouble using technology, Cini suggests printing out a how-to guide for her. No matter how you do it ... Cini says if you can, you should make it a priority to SEE your mom on Sunday.
"Being able to look someone in the face, see their smile, and let them know you care about them ... is probably the best thing you can do," Cini says.
She also says the pandemic has presented a unique opportunity for everyone to connect on a deeper level.
"I think our whole change in our mindset has shown us that we need to treat each day as special," Cini says. "Especially seeing that other people have lost their loved ones during this time. I think we're going to be a little bit more caring, we're going to want to hear that story one more time, we might ask a couple more questions. We might sit a little bit longer."
