
Patti Ducayet, the state's long term care ombudsman says the public should know which homes have had cases. "Making that a publicly identified facility is just a way to ensure that the public knows what's going on, so they can know what the facility learned and what the facility is doing to protect people."In an email, Christine Mann with the Texas Department of State Health Services writes "As of today, HHSC had received reports of 198 nursing facilities and 52 assisted living facilities located in Texas as having one or more COVID-19 positive resident and/or health care worker. HHSC had received reports of 70 deaths related to COVID-19 in nursing facilities and 24 deaths related to COVID-19 in assisted living facilities located in Texas. There are 1,222 licensed nursing facilities and 2,002 licensed assisted living facilities statewide. In compliance with patient, resident and employee personal health privacy laws, we cannot provide more detailed information."
