A new study led by a UT Dallas researcher found a 12.5 percent increase in domestic violence attacks in the first two weeks of the shelter-at-home orders in Dallas County.

Alex Piquero a UT-Dallas criminology professor, is one of the study’s authors. Piquero says there are two reasons for the increase, one is that all the places that we normally go to relieve stress were suddenly taken away. Second, the added pressure of financial insecurity.

Following the two week increase, there was a decrease.

Researchers believe this could be because many people didn't call police because they were confined at home with their abusers.
