The American Heart Association did a couple of new studies and researchers found those who have a dog are more likely to live longer.

The researchers say this is especially true for people who've previously had a heart attack or stroke.

The researchers say the study did not prove cause and effect but Dr. Sreenivas Gudimetia who is a Cardiologist with Texas Health Fort Worth and Texas Health Physicians Group says, "Owning a dog has an impact in reducing depression and lowering blood pressure."

Researchers say caring for a dog also increases physical actitivity and reduces feelings of social isolation.
