DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The Dallas City Council has approved a $350,000 loan to help Royal Blue Grocery open a new store on Davis Street in North Oak Cliff.

The economic development agreement between the city and the company includes several provisions that were added after community meetings.

"This is going to bring in 26 to 28 new jobs in Oak Cliff paying $15 an hour," said Council Member Chad West, who represents the neighborhood. "During my campaign, before I ever got here, I committed to bringing more jobs to Oak Cliff."

The minimum wage was one of several provisions in the agreement designed to benefit the community.

The company will also be required to recruit extensively from the surrounding neighborhood and to hold an annual fund-raiser for a community garden in Oak Cliff.

"We have a major issue as relates to food deserts in the southern part of the city, and efforts like this and others are definitely needed," said Council Member Casey Thomas.
