2 Dallas County Sheriff's Deputies Suspected Of Stealing From Tornado-Damaged Store

DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Dallas County Sheriff's investigators say two deputies are suspected of stealing from a tornado-damaged store.

Officials say Deputy Joseph Bobadilla and Sgt. Rebecca Evans are accused of stealing merchandise from the Home Depot at Forest Lane and Central Expressway after last month's tornado. K

Deputy Raul Reyna of the Sheriff's office says Bobadilla was hired by Home Depot to guard against looters.

According to the Sheriff's Office, during his shifts, Bobadilla would take items from the store and later exchange them at another location for in-store credit, subsequently purchasing items with the in-store credits he received. The items he purchased included appliances and other merchandise. He has since bonded out, authorities say.

Evans was taken into custody at around 3 p.m. Thursday and is facing the same charge as Bobadilla, felony theft of property enhanced.

Evans has been employed by the Sheriff's office for 16 years. She was promoted to deputy in 2007 after having worked in the jail as a detention service officer.

"The Dallas Sheriff's Office does not condone or support employees that break the law," said Sheriff Marian Brown. "Our core values are integrity, professionalism and accountability and as a result, we will follow the proper procedures and guidelines in place to uphold the law and ensure the deputy is held responsible for his actions."
