DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Texas Governor Greg Abbott will meet with President Donald Trump and several other Republican governors at the White House Thursday.

The Trump Administration says they will discuss plans to reopen businesses following the coronavirus outbreak.

"Texas to open businesses in phases beginning Friday. Great job being done by [Governor Greg Abbott>," Trump tweeted last week.

Last Friday, restaurants, movie theaters and malls were among businesses allowed to open up to 25 percent capacity. This Friday, salons and barbershops are allowed to open at the same capacity.

Abbott says he will review data from each phase and could increase capacity limits to 50 percent later this month. Many businesses have said they would have to wait until capacity increases to open because they could not turn a profit at 25 percent.

A poll by the University of Texas at Tyler and a local Dallas newspaper shows 63% of Texans "approve" or "strongly approve" of the way Abbott is handling the response to coronavirus. The same poll shows just 43% of Texans approve or strongly approve of the president's response.

Approval increases for local leaders. Sixty eight percent of respondents approve or strongly approve of the way their mayor or county judge has handled the response.
