DALLAS (KRLD) - A state lawmaker has sent a letter to the head of the Department of Public Safety asking when people will see a change in lines at driver license centers. State Senator Jane Nelson wrote she was writing to "express my great frustration that Texans continue to experience excessive delays when visiting driver license offices."

She says the state legislature approved an additional $212.4 million for driver license services.

The measure includes funding for an additional 762 employees and raises for existing employees. The bill also extends the life of a driver license from six to eight years.

At the "mega-center" in Garland, a line stretched around the outside of the building this week.

"I come here every year. I'm an international student, so I have to get it renewed on a yearly basis. It sucks," said one woman who said she had been waiting outside almost two hours.

"It's terrible. We're just standing in the hot sun for a long time," a woman standing behind her said.

DPS has not responded to Nelson's letter.

Governor Abbott has signed the bill allowing additional funding, but the increase does not take effect until September 1
