Dickey added that Mayor Turner’s use of the Force Majeure clause is just a pretext to his intent to treat the Republican Party of Texas differently than other groups, such as those we have seen from recent protests in the city of Houston.

During the Houston COVID-19 press conference Mayor Turner addressed this saying, “There are distinct differences between marching and protesting. If you want to go and March and protest, you are assuming that responsibility for yourself as well as those around you, too. When you are in an indoor event like a conference, it requires ancillary support. So you are involuntarily including other people in your room in order to facilitate that event. That's the difference.”

Dickey added in his statement that he believed Mayor Turner canceled the convention because he wanted to, “not due to any “act of God” – only due to his desire to do so and to hold the Republican Party of Texas to a different standard than other entities.” Turner addressed this issue in Thursday’s COVID-19 press conference saying, “They signed the contract that defined a Force Majeure as a pandemic. They signed that contract.”
