DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - The school year brought unprecedented challenges for students at Thomas Jefferson High School in Dallas.
First, their main campus was destroyed in October’s tornadoes, then COVID-19 canceled most of their graduation festivities. But tonight, they're celebrating pushing through the tough times with a parade.
"This is just an opportunity to see all our seniors and almost treat it like a graduation," Thomas Jefferson Principal Sandy Massey says.
Parents, teachers and school officials are organizing the first ever “TJ Mile" to begin at 5:00 this evening.
Seniors will drive through crowds of cheering onlookers, stopping along the way to collect fun prizes, treats and eventually ... their caps and gowns.
"A lot of people plan to show up and just celebrate them," Massey says. "They'll drive around the entire block of TJ ... and be celebrated with signs and cheers."
Massey says the parade is TJ’s way of sending the seniors off on a happy note.
