DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - Officers with the Department of Veterans Affairs shot and killed a man they say was carrying a knife at the Dallas VA Medical Center Wednesday night.
Hospital officers saw a man with a knife about 10:20 p.m.
Officers say the man started to walk away, so they followed him and tried to talk to him. VA officers tried to tell him to drop the knife.
Police say the man refused, so officers tried to take the knife away. During the encounter, they say two officers fired, killing the suspect.
The Dallas police Special Investigations Unit is leading the investigation. They say the man had gone to the hospital for treatment with "psychiatric issues," but they have not said what led the two officers to fire.
"Investigators are still talking with officers and witnesses," says Dallas Police Officer DeMarquis Black. "Of course, the veterans hospital is trying to go through some video they might have."
Black says no officers or bystanders were hurt.
