DALLAS (1080 KRLD) - It's a plant-based jerky that's built a following across Texas and in several other states.
Cross Roads-based "It's Jerky, Y'all" is among the 20 finalists in HEB's 2019 "Quest for Texas Best" competition, which spotlights the "most delectable culinary creations from talented Texans" each year.
Made with soybeans, the meatless jerky is sold in three flavors: Black Pepper & Sea Salt, Prickly Pear Teriyaki and Prickly Pear Chipotle.
"It's Jerky, Y'all" was founded in 2018, and their products are sold online and at specialty shops and resorts throughout Texas.
HEB says the 20 finalists in the sixth annual "Quest for Texas Best" battle were chosen from a field of 824 entries from 136 cities and towns across the state. The finals will be held Aug. 7-8 in Houston. The top four winners will share $70,000 in prize money, but the grand prize winner also receives prime product placement on shelves in H-E-B stores all over Texas.
Along with "It's Jerky, Y'all," the 2019 finalists also include coffee, barbecue sauce, sausage, a "beer dressing" known as Lickstrips and protein bars made with crickets.
