PLANO (1080 KRLD) - The City of Plano is dealing with another sanitary sewer overflow caused by this week's heavy rain.
It's at the same manhole near the Glen Eagles Golf Course that overflowed earlier this week.
That first overflow released about 400,000 gallons of sewage and storm water into White Rock Creek. The current overflow has released more than 100,000 gallons.
City officials say Plano's drinking water supply has not been affected.
Crews will survey the water in White Rock Creek once the current overflow is stopped.
That same location suffered a major overflow last fall. The overflows are triggered when rain water and debris flow into the sewage system through damaged components, illegal connections or cracks in manholes and pipes. The system does have the capacity to handle some of that additional water, but officials say the rain this week has overwhelmed that capacity.
The City of Plano is working on a project to increase sewage capacity at that location from 12.5 million gallons per day to 17 million gallons per day. The improvements will lead to better management of peak flow conditions.
The project should be completed this summer.
