DALLAS (KRLD) - Preparations have already been made to bring in heavy equipment in an effort to remove the collapsed crane from the old east Dallas apartment complex.
Elan City Lights managers sent a letter to residents Wednesday, saying 27 laminated mats have been placed on Live Oak Street to provide protection to the existing road.
Several new cranes will be brought in next couple days to remove the fallen crane from the side of the building. Workers will have to use blow torches to cut the crane into sections for removal. The Dallas Fire Department will provide 24-hour fire watch during this time.
Management says 271 units have been packed and 254 units have been transferred to the storage facility. However, all collection operations will cease on August 18th until the crane removal is complete.
The entire process is expected to take around eight weeks, according to management.
The crane collapsed on June 9.
