Recent Study Shows Lowest Life Expectancy In Texas Is In Fort Worth Zip Code

FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A recent study from UT Southwestern identified Fort Worth's 76104 ZIP code as he area with the lowest life expectancy in Texas. Residents in the cooridor immediately south of downtown Fort Worth are expected to live only 66.7 years. By comparison, that's more than 30 years shy of the ZIP with the highest life expectancy - the 78634 ZIP in Hutto.

Understandably, community leaders are concerned, so they are coming together Saturday, April 13 for an event called "Unity Across the Trinity: Changing the Trajectory of Life Expectancy in Our Inner City."

The forum will be held at New Mount Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Forth Worth.

Several guest speakers will be featured at the event, including Dr. Sandi Pruitt, one of the authors of the study.  Dr. Pruitt says that with every ZIP code being so different, the factors leading to the poor findings need to be addressed by actual members of the community.

"With the help from health professionals, church communities, community members, and the city of Fort Worth, it's up to them to start to get a grip on what's going on, and what the factors are that are driving the outcome," says Dr. Pruitt.
