FORT WORTH (1080 KRLD) - A Fort Worth teenager is dead in a fireworks accident last night.
Parmedics were called to a home on Virgil St. on the city's east side just before 10:00 last night.
"They did find a 19-year-old male who had suffered extensive trauma to his upper extremity secondary to a firework," says Mike Drivdahl, a spokesman with Fort Worth Fire. "That patient was in cardiac arrest when our crews arrived on scene."
The man has been identified as Maneno Juma, 19.
"We did perform CPR and full ALS (advanced life-saving) care for that patient, transported him with MedStar to JPS, and he was pronounced deceased at JPS," says Drivdahl.
Fort Worth Fire says there were two similar incidents last night that were not fatal.
All in all, it was a busy night for the department last night.
"Our non-emergency fireworks hotline fielded a little over 2000 fireworks calls last night," says Drivdahl.
Consumer-grade fireworks are illegal within most city limits, including Fort Worth.
Using or possessing fireworks within city limits is punishable by up to a $2000 fine and/or confiscation of those fireworks.
