JACKSONVILLE (KRLD) - Two people were locked up for fighting an East Texas deputy during a traffic stop, last week.
On Dec. 29, a Cherokee County Deputy Sheriff pulled over Cristian Diaz, who did not have a driver's license. Investigators also said that the sheriff smelled an odor coming from the car, believed to be alcohol.
Diaz refused to give his name and date of birth when requested, so the sheriff asked him to step out of the vehicle. Upon doing so, Diaz attempted to flee before being taken down by the deputy. Suddenly, a passenger in the car, Corina Castaneda, put her arms around the sheriff's neck, allowing Diaz to take off. Diaz then ran onto the highway and was restrained by some good Samaritans that stopped to assist the deputy.
Castaneda ran back to the car and drove in the deputy's direction nearly striking him. She then got out of the car and ran towards him but was intercepted by Jacksonville police officers, who had arrived on the scene.
Diaz ultimately had to be tased by Jacksonville police. Police say he suffered minor injuries and will be okay.
Both Diaz and Castaneda face several charges.
